Merrida (Buddy) Coxwell was licensed to practice law in October 1980. He is licensed in all State and Federal Courts in Mississippi, including the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He has handled a wide variety of Federal and State criminal cases, including DUI matters, in Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, and Chicago.
Buddy was one of the founders of the Mississippi Attorneys for Constitutional Justice, an affiliate to the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys. He has served on the Mississippi State Bar’s Criminal Section during its existence. He is a Member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, the Louisiana Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Georgia Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.
Over the past 25 years, Buddy has handled a significant number of driving under the influence cases, both for ordinary citizens and for professionals. Buddy represented a Mississippi Supreme Court Justice and a notable local bond attorney on driving under the influence charges, both of which were found not guilty. In addition to trial work, Coxwell & Associates also handles criminal appeals. Buddy has personally worked on over 100 appeals in felony cases. For the years 2004-2005, Buddy served as President of the Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association and in 2007 was voted Trial Lawyer of the Year.
