Peggy Kaufmann has resigned from the position that she had been elected to on Tuesday. On April 11th Mt. Prospect School District 57’s Superintendent was charged with two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of alcohol. Kaufmann was to replace Bruce Brown, who will be retiring on June 30th. The School Board may have an emergency meeting to find a replacement for Kaufmann or decide at their regular meeting scheduled for May 21st.
Prior to her promotion Kaufmann served as assistant superintendent-instructional services for Schaumburg-based Community Consolidated School District 54.Joseph Leane, the School Board President was notified with a letter from Kaufman that she was to be resigning from the position that she would have held as of July 1st.
In 2002 Kaufmann was convicted of a similar charge. Leane stated, "I'm not comfortable going back over details," Leane said Wednesday. "Our relationship has been terminated, and I wish her well."
