| ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- In a story sure to raise the ire of those already becoming, unfortunately, used to stories of reckless and drunk drivers endangering children, a St. Petersburg, Florida woman was allegedly driving drunk with her infant son in her vehicle when she crashed into a house. |
Continuing the unfortunate series of news stories involving reckless parents driving drunk with children in their vehicles, a St. Petersburg, Florida woman was allegedly driving drunk with her infant son in her vehicle when she crashed into a house. Witnesses reported a woman, later identified as 28-year-old Billie Jean Vercellona, running red lights and driving into oncoming traffic lanes just after midnight Friday, St. Petersburg police say. Vercellona's truck eventually went off the road, hit two parked vehicles and then hit a house. Witnesses pulled the woman and her 5-month-old son from the truck. The mother and child were both checked out at nearby hospitals. No one in the house, apparently, was hurt.
.Vercellona was charged with DUI involving property damage, child abuse or neglect and three counts of battery on a health care provider. She was being held on $8,500 bail. No word yet on the condition of the infant, but we will keep you posted.
