A total of five Philadelphia police officers were hurt over the weekend in two separate drunk driving accidents. One is in critical condition.
An SUV slammed into a police cruiser right in front of St.Christopher's Hospital late Sunday night. Both officers -- a man and woman -- were treated and released. Gilberto Riviera, 47, of Chester, Pa., was arrested and charged with several charges including DUI and Reckless Endangerment.Two Philadelphia officers badly injured Sunday morning, June 28 in a suspected drunken-driving crash on Aramingo Avenue remained hospitalized yesterday, one of them in intensive care.
Those officers were among five hurt in three drunken-driving crashes Sunday, police said.
The two most seriously injured officers, Richard Hayes, 28, and George Higginson, 25, had pulled over a suspected drag racer Sunday morning in the 4200 block of Aramingo Avenue, police said.
John Cusick, 20, is charged in the accident that injured Officers Higginson and Hayes.
