MSU Bulldog Anthony Dixon's hard work during the offseason and spring practice indicated that he was ready to be a dependable team leader. Now, however, he and his team are forced to back to the drawing board, due to his drunk driving charge.
Dixon was arrested and charged with DUI in Starkville, Miss., after refusing to consent to a breathalyzer test or field sobriety test, according to a copy of the arrest report. The arresting police officer said he stopped Dixon after observing him drive off the side of the road.
According to the arrest report, Dixon's speech was slurred, and his eyes were bloodshot. Police said they also noticed two champagne bottles lying on the back floorboard of Dixon's car in plain view. In addition to the DUI charge, he was cited for careless driving and no proof of liability insurance.
Dixon, who has 2,603 career rushing yards and is just 609 yards away from Jerious Norwood's school rushing record, figures to be the centerpiece in the Bulldogs' offense this season.
