An incident report out of Tampa, Fla. shows that a publisher with The St. Petersburg Times has been arrested and charged with DUI. Joe DeLuca, 50, who is responsible for the newspaper's business operations in Tampa, was stopped Monday night. Police say he failed a field sobriety test and refused to have his blood-alcohol level checked.
A jail official said he was released on $500 bail Tuesday.
DeLuca said on the paper's Web site that he has retained an attorney to challenge the charge.
"All I can say right now is that I'm sorry this happened. I do, however, respectfully disagree with the field test assessment," the paper quoted him as saying.
A telephone message left at the newspaper was apparently not immediately returned. One wonders if he'll end up printing his own drunk driving report.
