Police in Petaluma arrested 15 people at two drunken driving checkpoints Friday night and early Saturday morning. The checkpoints were conducted on Petaluma Boulevard North at Metz Lane from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., and on Petaluma Boulevard North at Oak Street from 10 p.m. until 2:30 a.m., according to the Petaluma Police Department. Officers reported screening 1,141 drivers for possible DUI or driver's license offenses, 74 of whom were taken off the road for further investigation. Fifteen were eventually arrested.
Two suspects were arrested for DUI and for driving with a suspended license from prior DUI convictions, police reported.
Three other drivers were taken into custody for DUI, four for driving on a suspended license and six for driving without ever having been issued a license, according to police.
The checkpoints were funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
