In an astonishing story of a seemingly incorrigible youth with a penchant for drunken driving, police in Lincoln, Nebraska have arrested a 12-year-old boy for stealing and crashing a car, running from the accident and DUI. Police Chief Tom Casady said the boy stole a car from the Kwik Shop at 1st and Cornhusker at 8:40 Tuesday night. Casady said the keys were left inside and the doors were unlocked.
Casady said within minutes LPD received several calls of a car matching that description driving recklessly and running into things in the Gas Light neighborhood near the 100 block of W. Saunders. Casady said the boy hit a fence, a stop sign and eventually crashed into a parked car.
Casady said the boy tried to run away, but a 41 year old onlooker chased him down and held him until police arrived. The boy was arrested for auto theft, leaving the scene of an accident and DUI after testing with a blood alcohol level of .14.
Casady said the boy was referred to the County Attorney and was released to his parents.
This is not his first accident. He was also involved in a hit and run on June 13, making this his 4th hit and run in 2009. Casady said crimes involving youth happen in Lincoln, but this is the first time he can remember someone so young as intoxicated as this boy.
