Bay Area sees over 370 DUI arrests over holiday weekend

'Tis the season for end-of-summer drunken-driving arrests. More than 370 people have been arrested for driving under the influence in the Bay Area so far this Labor Day weekend while law enforcement agencies in the region are conducting increased DUI patrols and checkpoints. The weekend crackdown has led to the arrest of at least 371 individuals on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, compared to 377 arrests during the same time period last year, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety.
No deaths in the Bay Area have been attributed to drunk driving so far this weekend, compared to two alcohol-related deaths during the same period in 2008, according to traffic officials.
Officers from about 125 Bay Area law enforcement agencies have assisted in the regional DUI campaign. The increased sobriety checkpoints and patrols will continue through the rest of the day Monday.
